Botanio mobile application · Last updated: September 12, 2026
Botanio is a plant identification and care application. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles and where it goes. We collect the minimum needed for the app to work.
Botanio has no registration, no login and no user profiles. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app.
Your plants, their nicknames, watering schedules, history, notes and settings are stored only on your device. We do not have access to them and they are not uploaded to our servers. Deleting the app deletes this data. You can also erase it at any time from Profile → Settings → Reset data.
When you identify a plant or diagnose damage, the photo is sent to our server and forwarded to our plant-recognition provider for analysis:
| What | Why | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| The photo you take | Species identification and disease diagnosis | Kindwise (Plant.id), EU |
| Approximate coordinates | Filters out diseases that do not occur in your climate. Optional — you may deny location access and the app still works. | Kindwise (Plant.id), EU |
| Interface language | Returns results in your language | Kindwise, Google Gemini |
| Plant species name | Makes the diagnosis specific to your plant, and generates care instructions | Google Gemini (LLM text generation) |
Photos are not stored on our servers. They are processed to produce the result and are not retained by us afterwards, and are not used to train models by us.
Plant care texts are generated by a language model (Google Gemini) and cached by species name; the species name contains no information about you.
Premium subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by the store — we never see your card details. We receive only an anonymous confirmation that a subscription is active. Managing or cancelling a subscription is done in your store account settings.
Watering reminders are scheduled locally on your device. No reminder data is sent to us.
Botanio is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Because we do not hold your personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf — all your data lives on your device and is removed by deleting the app or using Reset data. If you have a question about data sent for photo analysis, write to us and we will answer.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected in the app's store listing.
